BARK HUMUS FROM MÖLLN: NOW RAL-CERTIFIED

Bark humus is a highly sought-after raw material: used as a peat substitute, organic soil improver, and substrate additive. Our bark humus, produced at our Mölln site, is now RAL-certified. The quality seal confirms compliance with the RAL quality assurance standards for substrates, soils, and mulches, and stands for clearly defined quality standards, transparent testing procedures, and continuous monitoring – providing a reliable foundation for the soil and substrate industry as well as for gardening and landscaping.

WHAT DOES THE RAL CERTIFICATION MEAN FOR BARK HUMUS?

The RAL certification is awarded by the Gütegemeinschaft Substrate für Pflanzen e. V. and is based on binding quality and testing specifications for substrates and organic additives. As part of the certification process, key quality parameters such as salt content, pH value, and nitrogen content or N-binding are regularly analysed.

BARK HUMUS: ORIGIN, PROPERTIES AND APPLICATIONS

Bark humus is produced from bark. When the material is stored over an extended period and regularly turned, natural decomposition processes begin: microorganisms break down the organic components and the bark develops into humus-rich material. This process is complex, requiring patience and careful management. The result is achieved only through a balanced interplay of composting, watering, and regular turning of the material.

As an organic raw material, bark humus is becoming increasingly important in the soil and substrate industry, where it is used to reduce the proportion of peat in substrates. It is also employed in gardening and landscaping for soil improvement and in planting areas. Key properties of bark humus include its ability to store and release nutrients as required, stabilise the pH value, and improve soil structure as well as drainage. Additionally, it is regarded as a structurally stable raw material that loosens fine substrates and contributes to to long-term soil quality.
